CAPE TOWN- Level 4 of the lockdown in South Africa has seen the relaxation of some regulations, however, those who don’t stick to the rules under the Disaster Management Act, could face fines varying between R500 and R5000.
The South African Judiciary has issued a list of offences which outlines how much money citizens will have to pay in ‘admission of guilt’ if they are found breaking lockdown rules.
If a person is caught or arrested by the South African Police Service for one of these offences, the officer may give the person an option to pay an ‘admission of guilt’ fine.
These fines allow for a person to admit guilt for a less serious offence without having to appear in court, preventing an unnecessary overload of the court system.
The directives are based on provincial and magistrate districts and fines may differ between regions, however they may also be very similar.
Not all regions have published directives, however, the fines below apply to the Tshwane Magistrates Region.
