CAPE TOWN - A group of Nyanga community members mobilised to start a clean-up campaign to help stop the spread of diseases and pollution in the area.
Lulama Benge, who initiated the clean-up campaign, is one of the 15 people who took to the streets to clean-up.
"Our group is mostly unemployed youth who have had enough of what's been happening in our area," said Benge.
"It's been like this for many years we were tired of our kids getting sick and picking up diseases because of the dirt.
"After that initial clean-up we thought of growing a garden with plants and trees rather than a vegetable garden because it's on an open field," he added.
Benge said that this is phase one of their project as they look to clean-up around schools and churches.
