DURBAN - South African business tycoon Patrice Motsepe will donate R 1 Billion to help fight the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.

Motsepe said the money will be channeled through government in order to build water, health and educational facilities across the country.

“We’ve been advised that access to water for regularly washing hands is crucial for slowing and limiting the spread of the coronavirus. We are therefore providing water to poor rural and urban communities by purchasing water tanks, drilling and equipping for borehole water and also building sanitary facilities,” said the African Rainbow Foundation executive chairman.

“Our short to medium term interventions include building additional classrooms, computer centres and laboratories in all the 9 provinces of South Africa to assist with the excessively high number of students per classroom in some schools; particularly in the context of the current coronavirus pandemic and the social distancing requirements,” said Motsepe.

He said his foundation and associated companies will be working in collaboration with traditional healers, religious groups, local governments, unions, NGO’S and a host of businessmen to deal with the pandemic.
