Ministers in the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster briefed the media on Thursday regarding matters related to the enforcement of level 3 lockdown regulations.
This follows a briefing earlier on Thursday led by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who outlined the
lockdown level 3 regulations
which will kick in as of 1 June.
Here are some of the main points raised by ministers in the JCPS cluster.
Police Minister Bheki Cele clarified that social visiting is not permitted under level 3.
Cele said people who need to travel between metros and provinces need to have a permit or evidence on why they are travelling.
Roadblocks will be scaled down but will not be stopped altogether. However, hotspot areas will see an increase in roadblocks.
Those travelling to funerals would need a permit from the police and a magistrate. Once the funeral is over, they must be back home within 72 hours.
Licensed liquor traders will be permitted to transport liquor to licensed businesses from Friday, 29 May said Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
Access to courts will be limited, and those entering courts will be subjected to temperature screenings and sanitation.
South African borders will remain closed, apart from evacuations, repatriations and the transportation of goods.
Home Affairs will be able to issue birth certificates, and those needing to leave the country under special circumstances may apply for a passport.
Asylum and refugee services will remain closed, however, asylum certificates due to expire will be extended to the end of July.
