CAPE TOWN -Many applications made by unemployed people the for R350 social grant relief during the Covid-19 have been rejected as they did not reach requirements, the South African Social Service Agency (Sassa) explained.
According to Sassa most of the applicants were employed or were getting some source of income such as the UIF.
The Covid-19 grant was created for people who are unemployed, who have no sources of income, was not receiving government assistance such as NSFAS, social grant and must be over the age of 18 years.
Sassa chief executive Totsie Memela said they were doing all they can do to fast-track the processing and address complaints.
"We continue to work hard to ensure that those who qualify get what is due to them. Our main aim is to support the government in alleviating poverty especially during these difficult times but we have to follow required processes and we appeal for patience from those whose application we have not reached so far," said Memela.
He also urged applicants to use correct personal information when applying.
"Personal information is very important because during verification check should we find out that the information provided does not correspond with the identity document information that might result in the application being rejected," he said.
