CAPE TOWN -

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement to reopen cinemas, what will date night to the movies look like?

“As the country continues to open, the risk will naturally increase, but that infection is by no means inevitable, especially if people continue to adhere to social distancing measures and the wearing of masks in public,” said Ramaphosa.

Both Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro eagerly anticipate the reopening of their theatres and said that access control has always been part of their protocols.

There will be fewer movies being played and strict measures on disinfecting door handles and ticket counters every 30 minutes.

"At this stage, we are awaiting the Government Gazette in order to get clarity regarding the applicable social distancing and health and safety protocols including issues like the permitted number of guests per show," said Lynne Wylie, Ster-Kinkor's head of marketing.

As part of their physical distancing plans in the foyers, they will be encouraging customers to pre-book tickets and popcorn online.
