CAPE TOWN -

While some traffic departments across the country have reopened renewing your license may still be a daunting task due to limited staff capacity at traffic offices.

Motorists whose vehicle and driver's licenses that expired during the national lockdown, from March 27 to June 1, were given 90 days to renew their licenses at testing centres. While those with licenses expired out of that period have 21 days to renew.

Here are a few tips on what to do if your licenses expired during the lockdown:

Call the facility you are planning to visit before you go to avoid standing in long queues.

Alternatively, try and renew your vehicle licence at a South African Postal Office.

Keep any proof of payment, receipts, etc if you renewed your driver's licence before lockdown, but were unable to collect due to the closure of centres.

Make copies, take a photo on your phone. Should you be fined, you would need to contest this.
