DURBAN – Due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on the world, many organisations decided to either reschedule their events to next year or broadcast virtual events.

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) however decided to go ahead as planned with a live physical event in New York on August 30.

The VMAs will be one of the first physical events to take place since the pandemic started. MTV and Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, stated that the event would adhere to safety guidelines and have a limited audience capacity. MTV also stated that the performances at the VMAs will take place at undisclosed landmarks around New York.

The VMAs is one of music’s biggest events of the year, showcasing live performances from various artists in the music industry. The VMAs nominations and performers have not yet been announced. However, it is unclear whether the number of performers for this year’s VMAs will remain the same as the previous years’ awards.

New York City was one of the cities worse hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, in the United States of America.
