CAPE TOWN- Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has clarified that the whole of South Africa will be moving to alert level 3 of the national lockdown in June after there was confusion about whether Covid-19 hotspots might remain in level 4.

In a presentation Mkhize told the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday that hotspots would remain on level four lockdown, this was however based on an outdated slide show.

The health department has now cleared up any confusion saying, “an old slide show was presented stating hotspots would remain at level 4. That slide is now outdated and was inadvertently included in a presentation that has been updated”.

In his address to the nation on Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa said there are a number of metro hotspots in the country which include Tshwane, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Ethekwini, Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay.

A hotspot is defined as an area that has more than 5 infected people per every 100,000 people or where new infections are increasing at a fast pace.
