Johannesburg – Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) commissar Andile Mngxitama, on Wednesday made a surprise appearance at the Hillbrow police station, where the Anti-Racism Action Forum (ARAF) laid 22 criminal charges against the last apartheid president FW De Klerk.

Although Mngxitama introduced members of the newly formed ARAF, he later denied that he was a member of the organisation. Mngxitama, who was an EFF MP, was booted out of the party after a public row with its leaders.

In July 2015, months after he was sacked by the EFF, Mngxitama said: “I have lost all hope and respect that the EFF can carry out a revolutionary project.”

But on Wednesday, Mngxitama, who claimed at the time, that EFF president Julius Malema and his deputy Floyd Shivambu were guilty of misusing party funds, flatly denied he was part of ARAF.

ARAF leader Yerushka Chetty laid charges of conspiracy to murder against De Klerk and apartheid era minister of law and order Adrian Vlok.

She said her organisation had “opened” 22 criminal charges against De Klerk and Vlok at Hillbrow police station.

Chetty, who confirmed that ARAF had a “case number” issued by an investigation officer, accused the two politicians of committing crimes against black people during apartheid.

Chetty said De Klerk and Vlok did not seek amnesty for the crimes from the Truth and Reconciliation Commmission, which granted pardons to those who made full disclosures of the crimes they had committed before South Africa became a democracy in 1994.

Chetty said ARAF had also laid complaints of racism against De Klerk and Vlok with the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

The two complaints presented to the SAHRC by ARAF refer to De Klerk’s speech at the Vootrekker Monument in Pretoria on May 29 last year where he allegedly said that apartheid was not a crime.

“FW De Klerk on the January 15 this year laid a complaint against black people who made certain comments in 45 social media posts that are alleged to be racist,” said Chetty.

De Klerk has rubbished the charges, saying he had nothing to fear.
