Three men have been arrested after an attempted house robbery in Orchards, Joburg, police said on Friday.

Captain Phillip Maganedisa said they were caught shortly after the crime on Thursday.

“They entered the property, tied up the 75-year-old owner and her helper before ransacking the house.”

The two managed to set off the alarm. A security company responded and caught them in the neighbourhood.

“It also came to light that (there were) initially four (of them) but one was sitting in a getaway car and drove off after alerting those inside (of the security guards).”

Police managed to find his house in Alexandra, but he got away again after two local residents warned him. Those two were also arrested.

“All the people arrested so far are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon. The three alleged robbers will face charges of house robbery, while the other two will face charges of obstructing the course of justice,” Maganedisa said. – Sapa
