Kimberley - Arguments on an acquittal application in the case involving Trifecta and senior ANC leaders continued in the Northern Cape High Court on Tuesday.
Judge Mathebe Phatshoane was hearing evidence in a fraud and corruption case against Northern Cape ANC heavyweights John Block, Alvin Botes and Yolanda Botha, and Trifecta director Christo Scholtz.
The National Prosecuting Authority accused the Trifecta Group of entering into a number of lease agreements with the Northern Cape department in which rentals, or rental space, were grossly inflated.
The accused have all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them or their companies.
Legal counsel for Block and Botes, Salie Joubert, started proceedings arguing in favour of the acquittal application.
He submitted that the State's inferences reached in the case must be based on facts that have been proven in court.
Joubert said the State's inferences were rather more “pie in the sky”.
