Johannesburg - A woman was arrested for fraud while trying to open a savings account at Capitec Bank in Soweto on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

The 32-year-old allegedly used an identity document linked to other fraud cases, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

“She is allegedly working with a group of people in town (Johannesburg central), who are... giving her false pay slips to go and open accounts.

“They are pretending to work for a certain company that does not exist. We are investigating the matter.”

She was due to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
