Johannesburg - A man arrested in connection with the theft of cash from a Sandton, Johannesburg, hotel guest was granted bail by the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Bail for Muzi Khumalo, 24, was set at R2000, police spokesman Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said.

He would be back in court on July 30. Khumalo was arrested in Sandton on Sunday, a day after the robbery in the Holiday Inn hotel.

Prominent Jordanian banker Farid Alshabbar claimed EU180 000 (R1.8m) and R300 000 in cash were taken from a safe in his hotel room.

Maphakela said Khumalo was found in possession of some of the stolen money.

“He faces a charge of business burglary and theft.”

The Holiday Inn said it was co-operating with the police's investigation. - Sapa
