Pretoria - Mpumalanga police on Tuesday said they had arrested a suspect who allegedly abducted and then repeatedly raped a 15-year-old girl.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Gerald Sedibe said the teenager was allegedly raped and kidnapped from Machiding Village in Siyabuswa on Sunday. “The victim was asleep with her mother when they were awakened by the armed suspect who had forced entry into their bedroom. The suspect reportedly tied the mother's hands and feet with shoelaces, then raped the girl in full view of her mother,” Sedibe said.

“When the notorious suspect was done with his evil deeds, he robbed the woman of her belongings, forcefully abducted the girl to his place where he repeatedly raped and released her the following morning.” He said police had worked tirelessly to track down the suspect.

The 28-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday afternoon when police “pounced on him at his house” where they found a gun during a search of the premises.

“The suspect is facing charges of rape, kidnapping, armed robbery and possession of a firearm.

He is expected to appear before the Mdutjana Magistrate's Court soon.”
