Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League is due to appear in the High Court in Johannesburg on Monday to try and prevent a provisional liquidation order being made final.

In November last year the court granted the application of a provisional liquidation order against the league by a Bloemfontein events organiser who had originally been tasked with running the ANCYL's 2008 national conference in the Free State.

The conference left the businessman R15 million out of pocket after the league did not pay its bill.

On Sunday, the ANCYL's Gauteng branch said it was ready to “justify why the order should not be made final” in court on Monday.

“We are...of the firm view that the honourable judge erred.”

The league had said about 6 000 of its members and supporters were expected to picket outside the court on Monday.

On Sunday evening, however, the league announced that the picket had been cancelled.

“There is an interaction between the two parties. So they will appear in court and indicate the interactions taking place and we are expecting a postponement,” said provincial convenor of the league Alex Mashilo. - Sapa
