Cape Town - Three men have been arrested for the murder, hijacking and kidnapping of 21-year-old Olwyn Cowley of Brackenfell who was found shot dead at Monwabisi Beach in Khayelitsha on Friday after trying to sell his car.

The men, aged 25, 29, and 30, were arrested yesterday after being questioned about Cowley’s death. They will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said Cowley had been shot in the head twice.

His car, a silver BMW, was found abandoned in Mitchells Plain.

It is understood he advertised his car on the online classified site Gumtree.

A note posted by Cowley’s girflriend said Cowley was last seen on his way to the Shell garage in Century City, where he was to meet potential buyers.

Cowley’s aunt, Anita Hanekom, said Olwyn had previously met one of the men he was due to see at the Shell garage in Century City to conclude the sale of his car.

“I’m not sure where he met him before. The guy asked for some time because he didn’t have money, but then called Olwyn back saying he had the money.

“Olwyn had his name and ID number, but police records show it was a fake name, although the ID number was real,” said Hanekom.

Cowley’s funeral will be held at 3pm tomorrow at the Bellville Apostolic Faith Mission church.
