Johannesburg - A man's body has been found in the Vaal River in Campbell, east of Griquastad, Northern Cape police said on Saturday.

The body was found on Friday when children, swimming in the river, noticed a suspicious-looking bag and called the police, Lieutenant Donald Mdhluli said.

“The forensic team retrieved the bag and inside was a body...which had a wound,” he said.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim might have been killed, wrapped in a bag, and thrown in the river,” Mdhluli said.

The man had not yet been identified.
