Maraisburg- The body of a man, believed to be in his 30s, was found dead in the middle lane of the N1 highway near the Gordon Road off-ramp in Maraisburg, Johannesburg, on Tuesday.
According to a statement from ER24 emergency medical services, paramedics arrived on the scene at 11.06am where a man was found lying on the highway under the pedestrian bridge.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that several cars had come to a stop, which caused traffic to back up.
"Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life," Meiring added.
The man was declared dead on the scene and local authorities were investigating.
