Johannesburg - A man had his car stolen on Monday, allegedly by men posing as metro police officers, Johannesburg metro police said.

Superintendent Edna Mamonyane said the men, who were wearing metro police uniform, stopped the man on the M1 between Marlboro and Grayston roads.

One of the men drove away with his silver VW Polo, while the others drove off in a white Mazda single-cab bakkie, leaving him on the side of the road. He flagged down another metro police vehicle and told them what had happened.

“The police spotted the vehicles and started giving chase. The vehicles then drove into Alexandra,” she said.

The search was still underway.
