Durban - Journalist and author Mandy Wiener, with reporter Barry Bateman, will write a tell-all book about the killing of model Reeva Steenkamp at the hands of her boyfriend, Paralympian Oscar Pistorius.

Pistorius shot Steenkamp on February 14 at his multimillion-rand Pretoria home, claiming he mistook her for an intruder.

He is out on bail. The book, Behind the Door: The Oscar and Reeva Story, will be released once the trial concludes.

It promises to explore the characters involved – with an obvious focus on Pistorius and Steenkamp – relate the courtroom interactions and unpack the forensic and circumstantial evidence.

The publishers said it would also deal with the police investigation, the criminal justice system, the culture of violence in South Africa “and the need of society to create flawed heroes who are destined to fail”.

Pan Macmillan South Africa has acquired world rights to the book, with Pan Macmillan UK getting sublicensing rights.

Bateman, one of the first journalists on scene after the shooting, confirmed the news on Sunday night.

He has been covering all the developments in the case but was reluctant to provide further details, saying planning was still at an early stage.

The Pan Macmillan UK rights department is in charge of managing foreign language rights sales.
