Cape Town - A 10-year-old Mitchells Plain boy was shot dead and two other people wounded in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday night.

Police spokesman Tembinkosi Kinana said they were standing in an alley in Rolbal Crescent, Beacon Valley, at about 8pm when six unidentified gunmen drove past and opened fire.

“The victims, aged 10 to 24, were standing along Rolbal Crescent when the suspects, driving a white Honda started shooting at them.

The 10-year-old succumbed to his wounds. The motive is unknown and no one has been arrested,” he said.

The shooting happened a day after a 4-year-old girl was wounded by a stray bullet outside the gate to her home in Wesbank, near Blue Downs. The girl - identified by neighbours only as Brooklyn - was struck in the back on Monday night. She had surgery that night.

In Marloth Road, Wesbank, neighbours said on Tuesday they thought the shooting had been gang-related. Undean Koopman, 27, said her three-year-old daughter had played in the street with Brooklyn until 4pm on Monday. “I heard the shots. One, two - more than six. I phoned the ambulance.”

Red Cross Hospital spokeswoman Angelique Jordaan said Brooklyn had emergency surgery and was in a “stable condition”.
