Scottburgh - A 35-year-old man accused of bribery was arrested in Scottburgh on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

He was taken into custody at the Scottburgh Magistrate's Court after offering a bribe to a detective investigating his brother's case, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

“He offered to pay a bribe of R5 000 for the detective to not oppose bail so his brother can be released from custody,” he said.

The detective told his superiors, a trap was set, and the man was arrested.

He would appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Zwane said the man was a foreigner, but did not know his nationality. He was also not sure why the man's brother was being held.
