Free State – The burned body of an identified woman was found near a crèche in Seeisoville, Maokeng in Kroonstad, provincial police said on Wednesday.

Maokeng police were notified of an unidentified African female's body after a passer-by at around 7.15am on Tuesday, saw what seemed to be a body laying in burned grass near a crèche in Seeisoville.

"Members rushed to the scene and on arrival they discovered that it is the body of an unknown female about 29 years old, burned beyond recognition. No form of identification was found near the deceased’s body," spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli said.

Kareli said a case of murder is being investigated by the Maokeng police while conducting a post-mortem which will reveal if the deceased was raped or not.

The Kroonstad Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mapulane said that community members wishing to remain anonymous should still contact the police. "The relationship we have with the community will not let us down," Mapulane added.
