Johannesburg - The police have obtained vital clues “positively linking” Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir to the murder of his underworld rival Sam Issa.
Two witnesses have made confessions to the police about how he had planned the hit, police insiders claimed.
Issa, also known as “The Cripple” or “Black Sam”, died in a hit while driving through Bedfordview last October.
Thirty-three bullets were pumped into his Audi Q7.
The witnesses have apparently confessed to police how Issa and Krejcir drank the whole night at his Money Point business premises in Bedfordview.
It is also alleged that during their meeting, Krejcir and Issa smoked the peace pipe after having a fallout, because the Czech fugitive owed him R10 million for a drug consignment.
Last year, there were reports that his Audi Q7 had been spotted outside Krejcir’s Money Point gold exchange shop less than 10 hours before his murder.
Police are confident that their case against Krejcir is watertight.
The Star understands that one of the witnesses pointed out the crime scenes and the places where the meetings were held when the hit was being planned. The witness told the police that each hitman was paid R250 000.
One source said: “We are confident that we have a strong case. One of the witnesses has pointed out the scenes.
“We took pictures of him (the informant) in all the places. He also told us what type of firearms were used.”
While Krejcir has denied any links to Issa – besides simply knowing him as a fellow Bedfordview resident – sources close to the case have confirmed that the shooting was connected to their “business relationship”.
In April, The Star reported that Krejcir was likely to be charged with the murders of Issa and German supercar specialist Uwe Gemballa.
Krejcir has already been charged with the murder of alleged Zimbabwean debt collector Phumlani Ncube.
The debt collector’s bullet-riddled body was found near a farm in Heidelberg, Mpumalanga, in July 2010. He was allegedly shot and killed at a house in Joburg before his body was dumped in the veld near a farm. He had been stripped naked.
Ncube, who lived in Norwood, Joburg, allegedly worked for Krejcir as his debt collector. It is alleged that Krejcir organised his murder after a fallout.
Issa and Ncube were allegedly killed with the same firearm after Krejcir had hired hitmen to “take them out”, sources familiar with the issue said.
It was still unclear when Krejcir was going to be charged for the murder of Gemballa.
In the other case, Owen Serero, Krejcir, Siboniso Miya, Zoduma Biyela, Jacob Nare, Nkanyiso Mafunda, Simphiwe Memela and police sergeant Nandi Nkosi stand accused of conspiring to kill Colonel Nkosana “Killer” Ximba and forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan.
This matter was postponed to next month in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court for the State to amend its indictment against the accused, and for it to be transferred to the South Gauteng High Court in Joburg.
Krejcir is also on trial for attempted murder and kidnapping after a drug shipment to Australia allegedly went missing.
