Cocaine worth R2.8m seized in Maitland

Cape Town – Cocaine with an estimated value of R2.8 million has been seized in Maitland in Cape Town, provincial police said on Thursday.

Cleaning staff called the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Thursday, to a container depot in Maitland where the cleaners discovered seven blocks of cocaine hidden in a side panel of an empty container.

The cocaine has a combined weight of seven kilograms with an estimated value of R2.8 million and arrived in Table Bay Harbour recently. Police Spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut, said: "Provincial detectives are fine combing the circumstances surrounding the discovery".

"Our investigation will focus on the origin of the drugs and the whether it was destined for our shores."
