Port Elizabeth - Police in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday called on members of the public to assist in their search for a man who shot dead three people in New Brighton.

The shooting left four others critically wounded.

A man apparently entered a tavern in Nibe Street at about 7.30pm on Monday and started shooting randomly.

“At this moment the suspect and the motive for the attack are unknown,” provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Celiwe Binta said in a statement.

“We strongly condemn the violent and unlawful behaviour and request the community to work together with the police in getting those responsible for these heinous criminal attacks (arrested).”

A multi-disciplinary SA Police Service task team had been established to investigate the shooting.
