Port Elizabeth – An inquest docket was opened following the discovery of human bones in Willowvale, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

Police spokesman, Captain Jackson Manatha, said the bones were found in an open field by a resident in Mfezana Village, Willowvale over the weekend.

Manatha said a pair of trousers, boots and a red belt were also discovered at the scene along with the human bones.

"It appears that the bones must have been laying there for a long time because there is no flesh attached to it," he said.

Police are not certain whether the bones belong to a male or female's body. Police are appealing to anyone who might know of a missing person in the area to contact Willovale police.
