Nelspruit - Mpumalanga police were investigating a murder case on Thursday following the death of a Grade 12 pupil after an alleged assault at a school in Nelspruit.

“The matter has been changed from an inquest to a murder charge,” said Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

No one had been arrested as police were awaiting post-mortem and forensic results.

“The result from forensic will give us direction of who might be liable for the death of the child.”

He said the result would determine if the alleged assault had anything to do with the girl's death.

Police were not sure if the girl was assaulted because a case of assault was never opened.

“We request the community to be patient, we are not delaying the matter.” - Sapa
