East London - A 31-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, in connection with the rape of a seven-year-old girl at the GPO informal settlement in Dutywa near East London, Eastern Cape police said.
Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the girl was raped on June 10.
"The suspect upon learning that he was wanted by Dutywa Police disappeared. The investigation of the case continued around the clock as safety of women and children is a top priority for the Eastern Cape Police," said Manatha.
The suspect was expected to appear in the Dutywa Magistrate's Court on Friday.
