Port Elizabeth - Police in Uitenhage, Nelson Mandela Bay have arrested seven men and confiscated an illegal firearm after stopping and searching a suspicious car, Eastern Cape police said.

Uitenhage police spotted and pulled over a blue VW Jetta driving in Mitchell Street, Uitenhage early on Saturday morning, police said in a statement.

The car matched a description of a car seen driving away from a murder scene in ZK Matthews Street, KwaNobuhle about half-an-hour earlier. Police searched the car and found a firearm.

The seven occupants of the car were arrested. A preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm was stolen in Uitenhage a month ago.

The seven men, aged between 20 and 51, would appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm, with a possibility of adding a murder charge, the statement said.
