Johannesburg - Three motorcyclists and five motorists were arrested for allegedly speeding on the N1 south near the Maraisburg off-ramp on Sunday, Johannesburg metro police said.

The three motorcyclists had no rear registration number plates, possibly to avoid being captured by cameras, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

“However, their tricks did not work this time around because they were physically arrested by our high-speed unit,” said Minnaar.

All eight suspects were caught travelling at speeds between 165km/h and 220km/h.

They will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Monday to face speeding charges. - Sapa
