Johannesburg - An army general who allegedly mobilised SA National Defence Force (SANDF) troops to free arrested soldiers should be suspended, the FF Plus said on Thursday.
“The general must be charged immediately for obstruction of justice, the abuse of state property and the abuse of a position of power,” Freedom Front Plus spokesman Pieter Groenewald said in a statement.
“Due to the seriousness of the charges, it should also be considered to just arrest him.”
He said this type of action attested to poor discipline in the SANDF, and his party would raise questions in Parliament about the matter.
Earlier, the SANDF said it was looking into the alleged confrontation between police and the military in Oudtshoorn after 31 soldiers were reportedly arrested during a raid on a shebeen.
Western Cape police on Thursday would not confirm that the 31 were soldiers.
