Five in court for cop’s murder

Elliotdale - Two policemen and three others accused of killing a station commander appeared in the Elliotdale Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, Eastern Cape police said.

The matter was postponed to February 18 for a formal bail application, Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said.

The police officers are: Warrant Officer Phumzile Ngqayimbana, 41, and Constable Noxolo Matya, 37, who were both stationed at the Elliotdale police station.

The other three are: Sipho Simon Makhabeni, 46, Siyamcela Ntshitshi, 33, and Mbuyiseli Ngqayimbana, 37.

Elliotdale station commander Lt-Col Nomalizo Dukumbane, 53, was shot from behind on the doorstep of her home when she returned from work at 7.40pm on December 17. She died on the scene.

Dukumbane had served the SA Police Service for more than 30 years.
