Brits - Three men and a woman appeared in a North West court on Monday on burglary charges related to recent protests in Majakaneng, police said.

The burglary and theft case in the Brits Magistrate's Court was postponed to Tuesday, said Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone.

“It is alleged that Innocent Mpompa, 24, Isaiah Mokhele, 34, Lebogang Ramphana, 27, and Doubt Ngwenya, 35, were caught breaking and looting a local business in Majakaneng on Saturday morning during violent protests.”

Mokgwabone said police would continue to intensify their actions around the area.

“It is important that the community resist all the efforts of those who want to destroy property and to loot local business as this will only worsen the plight of the community in terms of access to basic services.”

Protesters in Majakaneng barricaded the Old Pretoria Road and the N4 highway on Friday.

They took to the streets over lack of water in their area.
