Port Elizabeth - Four people were arrested for allegedly killing a six-year-old girl and her 41-year-old aunt in Rosedale, Hankey, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

The two men and two women, aged between 21 and 23, were arrested on Sunday afternoon, said Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei.

Neighbours found the two bodies inside the aunt's house on Sunday morning and alerted police.

The four allegedly set the house alight after the murders, but neighbours managed to remove their bodies.

“It is being alleged that the body of the adult female was found with stab wounds to the upper body,” said Seekoei.

“The six-year-old is suspected to have been strangled.”

The motive of the killings was not known.

The four would appear in the Hankey Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of murder and arson.
