Gauteng man held for string of crimes

Benoni - A man has been arrested in Benoni on the East Rand in connection with a string of crimes, police said on Wednesday.

Sergeant Obakeng Mabaso said the man, 34, faced twenty criminal charges, including possession of unlicensed firearms and dealing in drugs.

He was taken into custody at his house in Benoni on Tuesday, .

Police recovered three unlicensed assault rifles, a large quantity of ammunition, a bullet proof vest, a stolen vehicle, drugs, computers, and identity documents and passports belonging to different people in Benoni.

“These weapons are suspected to have been used in serious and violent crimes in and around Gauteng,” Mabaso said.

The man would appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon.
