Durban - Police have yet to arrest a teen suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl at a Westville gym.

The girl was allegedly taken to the toilet at Virgin Active on Saturday where she was raped.

She then told her mother who had been waiting for her outside the gym.

The matter was reported to Westville police.

Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said a case of rape was being investigated.

Virgin Active spokeswoman Les Aupiais on Monday confirmed what she described as “an incident between two members”.

She said the health club had an extensive network of CCTV cameras which helped them identify the alleged rapist and provide his details to police.

“(This) should prove invaluable evidence as the investigation continues and an arrest is made,” she said.

Virgin Active was co-operating with police and supporting the family of the girl, said Aupiais.

“Virgin Active has also been able to offer the family counselling, which they have accepted.”

She said the alleged rapist’s gym membership had been suspended pending the investigation.
