Johannesburg - A 29-year-old woman accused of murdering a United States consulate worker is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old man was stabbed to death on Sunday morning after arriving with the woman at his flat in Illovo at 3am.

The French news agency AFP reported that the US Embassy named the man as Christopher “Norm” Bates. He had worked as an information management officer at the Johannesburg consulate from 2010.

On Monday, Gauteng police said a security guard heard a woman screaming and, when he went to check, he allegedly saw the woman with a knife in her hand and Bates with several stab wounds in his upper body.

Bates died on the scene. Police arrested the woman and seized the knife. - Sapa
