Johannesburg - An Alexandra policeman has been arrested for corruption, the Hawks said on Sunday.

The 42-year-old warrant officer was arrested on Friday and R10 000 was seized, said Hawks' spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko.

The warrant officer falsely told a motor mechanic he was being investigated for motor vehicle theft and house robbery, and solicited a R10 000 bribe to destroy the dockets, he said.

“He was apprehended immediately and the money was confiscated,” said Ramaloko.

The policeman was being held at the Roodepoort police station and would appear in the Wynburg Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
