Pretoria - Somali pirate kidnap survivor Debbie Calitz has been arrested in a police drugs raid in her Pretoria home, it was reported on Monday.

“We can confirm that Debbie Calitz was one of seven people arrested for the possession of drugs on Friday,” captain Pinky Tsinyane told The Times newspaper.

Calitz and her former long-term partner, Bruno Pelizzari, were released from captivity in Somalia almost six months ago, after being held for nearly two years.

Brooklyn and Garsfontein police raided her Constantia Park flat after being told Calitz was allegedly growing dagga and the hallucinogenic “magic mushrooms”.

Police recovered dagga, a dagga plant, “magic mushrooms” and narcotics-related paraphernalia.

She and the others were expected to appear in the Hatfield Community Court on Monday on charges of possession of drugs.

Calitz recently released a book regarding her kidnap, titled “Debbie Calitz: 20 Months in Hostage Hell”. - Sapa
