Johannesburg - A man has been arrested in Kagiso, on the West Rand, in connection with an assault on a house painter, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

The painter was employed to work on the man's house in Kagiso in December, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

On January 3, the painter went back to the man's house to collect money owed to him and was accused of stealing a television set.

The owner of the house locked the painter in his dining room and called his two brothers to his house.

“Upon arrival, they all attacked the complainant with hammers,” Sibiya said.

The painter was injured on his head and body and admitted to hospital. He was discharged last Wednesday.

The three men had been evading arrest, but the 45-year-old homeowner was traced and arrested at his house on Wednesday. He would appear in the Kagiso Magistrate's Court on the West Rand on Friday.
