Cape Town - Police arrested a 26-year-old man after finding a hydroponic dagga lab during a raid in Sea Point.

Police spokesman Constable Phidiswa Gcume said police searched the building in Marais Road on Friday, and discovered the operation on the second floor.

Dagga plants, a variety of equipment and an undisclosed sum of cash were seized. Police said the dagga was worth a “substantial amount”.

The man is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court to face drug possession charges.

Meanwhile, on Thursday police seized 2.7 tons of abalone from a warehouse on a farm in Philadelphia.

The abalone, worth an estimated R3.8 million, was found hidden in a concrete bath and containers. Four men were arrested and are expected to appear in the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court for illegal possession of abalone.

Equipment at the scene included a large stainless steel cooking pot, gas cylinders and drying shelves.
