Police were by Thursday afternoon still searching for the killers of a gay man in Kuruman in the Northern Cape.
Spokeswoman Lt-Col Mashay Gamieldien said they were following all possible leads, adding: “We are working non-stop.”
The Family Policy Institute (FPI) urged police to handle the investigation with urgency.
FPI spokesman Errol Naidoo said no genuine Christian leader or ministry would encourage violence against gays, under any circumstances.
“Christians are taught to love (them) even though they disagree with their lifestyle,” Naidoo said.
Thapelo Makutle, 23, was found dead in his rented room with his throat slit on Saturday morning. He was apparently involved in an argument with two heterosexual men about his sexuality on Friday.
Naidoo said the victim's sexual preference did not make the crime more or less serious.
