Johannesburg -

A man was arrested for allegedly shooting dead a tavern owner in Zwelibomvu, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

The 21-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

He said three armed men drinking at a tavern in Zwelibomvu in November ordered customers to lie down and robbed them.

They then went to a back room where they found the owner of the tavern and his wife.

They shot him in the stomach and shot his wife above the knee.

The owner of the tavern died on his way to hospital.

The robbers stole a car, cash, cellphones, cigarettes, and bottles of whisky and brandy.

The man was expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The two other suspects were still at large. - Sapa
