Durban - A woman died and her husband suffered critical burns when their house burnt down in Durban's outlying Adam's Mission area, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the elderly woman was dead by the time paramedics and the fire brigade arrived.

Her husband sustained critical burns and three others suffered minor burns. They were taken to hospital.

An eThekwini fire department official confirmed the blaze but could not comment on the cause.
