Johannesburg - A woman was arrested on Tuesday after the body of a 46-year-old man, believed to be her husband, was found in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said police received information on Monday night that the 47-year-old woman and her neighbours killed and buried her husband on October 7.

“Police followed up on the information and the woman confessed and showed police where the shallow grave was. The grave was dug up and the body of a man was found. It was taken to the state mortuary. It is alleged that he was beaten up and killed before he was taken to an open space, where he was buried in a shallow grave.”

Two men, aged 23 and 36, and two other women, aged 29 and 34, were also arrested on Tuesday. The motive for the killing was not known.

“The man had injuries to his head and body, but the post mortem would establish the cause of death.”

The five people were expected to appear in Protea Magistrate's Court soon.
