Port Elizabeth - A 23-year old man has been arrested in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas on a charge of attempted murder, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said his arrest on Tuesday was as a result of the quick reaction by Bethelsdorp Crime Prevention members and the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad.

Naidu said a gang affiliate claimed that shots were fired at him by three men while he was was sitting in Mpuko Street in Timothy Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

Naidu said the man was not wounded in the shooting. Swift action by police led to the arrest of one suspect at a house in Korea Street. Police confiscated a firearm.

Naidu said the suspect was also wanted in connection with another attempted murder which took place in Bethelsdorp earlier this month.
