Port Elizabeth - A man was arrested on Wednesday morning for stabbing another man to death in Makwayini, Mqanduli, Eastern Cape police said.

The man, 26, fought with his 30-year-old friend in a tavern after they robbed another man in the area on Tuesday.

They took R1000 and a cellphone, Major Zamukulungisa Jozana said.

“On their way home, a quarrel ensued between the two over the stolen cellphone and money. The argument resulted in the suspect stabbing and killing (the man),” he said.

He knifeman fled, but police caught him on Wednesday after a tip-off.

He would appear in the Mqanduli Magistrate's Court on Friday on a charge of murder.
