Johannesburg - A man found in possession of a rhino horn was arrested in Namakgale, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

Colonel Ronel Otto said the 35-year-old Mozambican man was taken into custody on Tuesday.

The man allegedly had a “fresh rhino horn”, a rifle, live ammunition, and an axe. He was arrested following a tip-off about a driver transporting rhino poachers to a game reserve in Phalaborwa.

Police caught the driver at a road-block and he led them to the poacher. He was arrested as he made his way out of the bushes. Two people with him escaped.

The driver and poacher were expected to appear in the Phalaborwa Magistrate's Court on Thursday. - Sapa
